There is a moral obligation that those who have should give to those who don’t.
Witch Things II
–Wicca was officially founded in the 1950s. Although it draws from older traditions, it is very much a modern religion.
–Witchcraft is a secular (non religious) practice. A Christian can be a witch. An atheist can be a witch. Regardless of religious or spiritual belief, there is a form of witchcraft for everyone.
–Witchcraft does not have to be complicated. Many of the modern trends are focused on the aesthetics of witchcraft. You do not need herbs and crystals and expensive ritual tools. All you need is your mind, and heart.
–At the same time, sometimes ingredients simply can’t be exchanged for others. There is no one universal herb or crystal or candle. Clear quartz and white candles and lavender can only do so much.
–Witchcraft is and has ALWAYS been incredibly personal. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. However, you should inform yourself of other practices. Learn why “smudging” is considered culturally appropriative and why “magic” isn’t always spelled with a k.
–If you choose to follow a traditional path, know the history of that path. Read as much as you can. Ask questions. Don’t just pick up the basic label and aesthetic of a path and assume you know everything.
–The gods are very old, very wise, and have their own priorities. Don’t treat them like tools. Respect your elders.
–Don’t be embarrassed if you are just starting out. Those of us who have been around for awhile were once green like you. This is a time of great opportunity. An entire world has been opened to you. You may encounter obstacles along the way; and may run into some not so friendly folks. But as a general rule, this is a community of acceptance, of creativity, and innovation. Do not be embarrassed by your newness.
–During your journey, you’ll run into people who have very specific views, who will tell you that you’re doing things the wrong way. Don’t be afraid of them, but DO listen. They may be jerks, but they may also be right. Consider their words, no matter how rude they may be. You can find truth anywhere.
–Never stop learning. Witchcraft is a beautiful way of life. It is all about self empowerment and personal growth. We are all human, and some of us may have gotten stuck in our ways, but the possibilities really are endless. Consider the words of your elders, your peers, your teachers. Learn all you can, and always keep an open mind. But don’t you dare let anyone decide who you are, or what your craft is. Respect your fellow magical folk, learn all you can, and find what works for you. Only then can you discover who you truly are.
Happy witching, my loves.
